  • Dr. Rolf Hagemann to become Vice Chairman of the Management Board
  • Management change effective 1 January 2011
  • New structure of the Management Board to strengthen management of the brands Media Markt and Saturn
  • Three new members appointed to the Management Board

In view of the strong expansion and international commitment with a focus on Eastern Europe and Asia, the shareholders of the Media-Saturn Group decided to significantly strengthen and restructure the company’s Management Board operationally. Effective from January 1, 2011, Horst Norberg and Dr. Rolf Hagemann will jointly manage the European market leader in electrical goods retail: Horst Norberg as Chairman of the Management Board of Media-Saturn will focus on sales issues while Dr. Rolf Hagemann as Vice Chairman will continue to hold responsibility for finance. The contract of Roland Weise, CEO of Media-Saturn-Holding, will not be extended. Roland Weise will resign from office at the end of the year.

With Horst Norberg, aged 63, an experienced and long-standing manager of Media-Saturn will now take the helm of the Group. He has been working with the company since 1987 and has been a member of the Management Board of Media-Saturn since 2001. Dr. Rolf Hagemann, aged 48, has been a member of the Management Board since 2006 with responsibility for finance. "This management team combines operational strength, corporate tradition and a future-oriented approach. This way, Media-Saturn will be excellently positioned for the upcoming challenges of the accelerated internationalization and the online business", say Dr. Eckhard Cordes, spokesman of the shareholders of Media-Saturn Group.

The shareholders METRO AG and the families Kellerhals and Stiefel thanked Roland Weise for his work. In a prominent position, Roland Weise had materially contributed to the success of Media-Saturn and built up the company to become an important international player. Most of all, Roland Weise significantly pushed the expansion in Eastern Europe.

To be able to respond to the further growing operational tasks - especially in the field of country support and the development of sales strategies - the Management Board will be extended: starting from January 2011 the three country CEOs Michael Rook (CEO Media-Saturn Deutschland GmbH, with the company since 1987), Joachim Roesges (CEO Media-Saturn Spain, with the company since 1997) and Frank Kretzschmar (CEO Media-Saturn Austria, with the company since 1999) will sit on the Management Board of the holding.

The change at the top of the company also involves a new structure for a focused management of the two sales brands Media Markt and Saturn. Two brand managers each for Media Markt and for Saturn are to raise the global brand profile and develop it further. Jaroslaw Drabarek and Pieter August Haas, who have been members of the Management Board of Media-Saturn Holding since 2008, will assume this task for Saturn while Joachim Roesges und Michael Rook will do the same for Media Markt. The remaining Management Board members are Wolfgang Kirsch, CPO, and Ralph Spangenberg, CHRO.
