Minister of Economics Brüderle and METRO CEO Cordes inaugurate METRO Group's representative office in the capital Berlin

METRO Group will inaugurate its representative office in Berlin on Monday, January 25 at 6:30 pm. The event, to which more than 250 guests from politics, industry and the media are expected to come, will be organised under the motto "Made for Dialogue". The inaugural speech will be held by the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Rainer Brüderle. 

With the new office, METRO Group intends to further extend and intensify its dialogue with the government and parliament but also with all relevant stakeholder groups. "A transparent, continued cooperation and a dialogue without prejudice are more important for a company today than ever before", said Dr. Eckhard Cordes, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of METRO Group. "Many modern-day challenges such as the consequences of the on-going economic and financial crisis but also issues like youth unemployment, environmental protection or the combat against hunger need a new alliance of shared responsibility between industry and politics". In this context, METRO Group is a real force field of the German economy. In its home market alone, the company has a workforce of some 120,000 employees and generates around € 27 billion in sales. As one of the major employers and one of the largest retailing companies in Germany, METRO Group is operating in the centre of society and contributing to people's quality of live on a daily basis. 

METRO Group already manages representative offices in Brussels, Moscow, Warsaw, Bucharest and Istanbul. The Berlin office will complement the company's existing network by an important national pillar. Through its permanent local contract person, METRO Group wants to be available for a political and social dialogue and contribute to making the company's positions more transparent.
