Metro Cash & Carry to supply EXPO 2010

  • Self-service wholesale company is one of the three recommended suppliers for the world exhibition
  • Supply to country pavilions agreed
  • Cooperation with China’s largest food producer COFCO

International experience for the biggest world exhibition of all times: Shanghai appointed the leading self-service wholesale company Metro Cash & Carry as one of the recommended suppliers for the EXPO 2010. At the world exhibition held from May 1 to October 31, the sales division will engage in three tasks: first, Metro Cash & Carry will supply the crew restaurants. Second, the sales division will provide the country pavilions of Germany, Italy, Russia, Denmark and the Netherlands with food and stationary. Third, Metro Cash & Carry will regularly supply more than 30 caterers of the EXPO 2010 with fresh produce. METRO Group is already represented at the world exhibition as the exclusive partner of its home city of Düsseldorf in a city pavilion. The sales divisions Metro Cash & Carry and Media Markt will present themselves to the visitors there. 

"EXPO 2010 offers a perfect opportunity for us to develop new business and demonstrate our performance capacity as a company offering solutions for hotel operators, restaurants and caterers", said Tino Zeiske, Managing Director of Metro Cash & Carry China. "Moreover, we also use the world exhibition to showcase that we are a pioneer in terms of food safety and traceability". 

To ensure an optimum supply during the EXPO 2010, the wholesale professional will operate a 650 square meter warehouse on the premises. In addition, Metro Cash & Carry won COFCO, China’s leading food producer, as a new strong partner for its Star Farm Initiative. With this project, the wholesale professional supports Chinese producers in achieving international food quality and safety standards as well as a complete traceability to food producers, farmers and fishermen. 

Metro Cash & Carry also operates the bistro in the pavilion of the city of Düsseldorf. The dishes on offer include regional specialties which are all prepared using products from the Star Farm Initiative. The special feature: visitors can completely trace the origins of the food products at the information terminals - from the field to the fork.
