Hutmacher to be appointed CHRO of METRO AG

Effective 1 October 2011, Heiko Hutmacher, 53, will take office on the Management Board as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), subject to approval by the Supervisory Board of METRO AG. The Personnel Committee of the Supervisory Board proposed Hutmacher as a new member of the Management Board and Labour Relations Director. With the appointment of Hutmacher, the Management Board will be extended from four to five members. Hutmacher will take over the Labour Relations Director function from the CEO, Dr Eckhard Cordes.

With Hutmacher, METRO GROUP is winning an internationally highly experienced expert in the field of Human Resources. Hutmacher, who held the position of Senior Vice President Human Resources at AkzoNobel since 2004, with responsibility for the entire personnel management of the "Fortune-500" corporation, was assigned to Paris, Johannesburg, Singapore, New York and Amsterdam in the course of his HR management career.

At the Dutch company AkzoNobel which produces chemicals and paints, Hutmacher consistently advanced the establishment of a global HR function in the past seven years and contributed to the company's standing as one of the leaders in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the chemical industry.

Prior to joining AkzoNobel, Hutmacher worked with IBM for 20 years, last as Vice President Human Resources at IBM Global Services. There, he was responsible for HR management in the regions of Europe, Middle East and Africa with around 50,000 employees. Before, he held responsible HR positions at IBM in New York, Singapore, South Africa and Paris. Hutmacher, who holds a diploma in business administration, spent the first ten years of his HR career at IBM in Germany.
