10 February 2012

On 12 February, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin will launch one of the most comprehensive exhibitions showcasing the works of German artist Gerhard Richter under the title "Panorama". The retrospective was organised to mark the occasion of the artist's 80th birthday on 9 February. METRO GROUP supports the exhibition as a main sponsor.

"With his long affiliation with the Kundstakademie, Gerhard Richter has sustainably contributed to giving Düsseldorf, the home of our company’s headquarters, a lively art scene at a high and internationally recognised level", says Heiko Hutmacher, Member of the Management Board of METRO GROUP, in the run-up to the exhibition. "Today, Richter is considered the most important German artist of our times. We are pleased to support such an outstanding exhibition as a main sponsor", says Hutmacher.

Around 150 paintings from all periods of the thematically and stylistically diverse oeuvre of Gerhard Richter form the center of the exhibition at the National Gallery in Berlin. The paintings on display were selected in close cooperation with the artist himself. Well-known canvasses such as "Ema", the nude descending the stairs, from the year 1966, are combined with rarely seen works or paintings that have never been on display before.

METRO GROUP ranks among the most important international retail companies with its sales brands Metro/Makro Cash & Carry, Real, Media Markt and Saturn as well as Galeria Kaufhof.
