METRO AG appoints Management Board member for Media-Saturn and Business Innovation

The Supervisory Board of METRO AG has resolved to extend the Group's top management team by one to a total of five Management Board members: Pieter Haas, presently still member of the Management Board and COO of Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH, will be appointed as new Management Board member responsible for Media-Saturn and Business Innovation in the second quarter. With the creation of the new Management Board portfolio, METRO GROUP underscores the high strategic significance of Media-Saturn for the Group. In his new role, Haas will collaborate closely with the Management Board of Media-Saturn in Ingolstadt.

Media-Saturn is and remains a core business of METRO GROUP - this now also reflects accordingly in the structure of the Management Board portfolio", said Franz Markus Haniel, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of METRO AG.

"With him, we have now taken on board not only a proven expert for consumer electronics, but also a specialist in multichannel retail; he will not only contribute this know-how in overseeing Media-Saturn, but also in identifying new innovative concepts." 

Haas has been with Media-Saturn since 2001, first as Managing Director of the Dutch subsidiary. In 2008, he joined the Management Board of Media-Saturn-Holding as COO. In this function, he was responsible for strategic planning, M&A, managing the Saturn brand and for the development and establishment of the multichannel and online only business (Redcoon, Flip4New, Juke), amongst others.  

Before joining Media-Saturn, Haas worked for ten years in different management positions for companies operating in the field of office management and office services. He started his career in 1986 as an analyst and consultant for the Hay Group. Haas holds an MBA from Nyenrode University in The Netherlands and he is 49 years old. 

With regard to the future responsibility for the areas managed by Haas, the company will inform in due time.
