Go-ahead for the cooperation: METRO GROUP closes the acquisition of RUNGIS express

Last Friday, the acquisition of RUNGIS express by METRO AG was officially closed. With this step, the premium foods supplier now formally belongs to METRO GROUP. In the run-up to the closing the pertinent competition authorities and the Supervisory Board of METRO AG had approved the transaction. "We are pleased to now be able to take the next steps together with RUNGIS express and discuss the specific details of our future cooperation", says Pieter C. Boone, Member of the Management Board of METRO AG and CEO of METRO Cash & Carry. In February, METRO GROUP had announced its intention to take over the Germany-based premium foods supplier. Also included in the acquisition are the logistics activities of the Cool Chain Group in Germany as well as the Swiss premium foods supplier Fideco. The company's organisational independence as well as the brand RUNGIS express will be fully retained. At the operational level, the new partner will collaborate with the Food Service Distribution team of METRO Cash & Carry Germany.

METRO GROUP is one of the most important international retailing companies. It generated sales of some €59 billion in financial year 2014/15. The company operates over 2,000 locations in 29 countries and employs more than 220,000 people. The performance of METRO GROUP is based on the strength of its sales brands, which act independently on the market: METRO/MAKRO Cash & Carry, the international leader in the self-service wholesale trade; Media Markt and Saturn, the European market leader in consumer electronics retailing; and Real hypermarkets.
